The Social Catalyst, An Entertainer Subtype

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” — Hebrews 10:24-25

While the Community Builder may avoid being the center of attention, the Social Catalyst doesn’t. His presence reshapes the group dynamic completely. He is the innovative, hype man, building others up or getting people to unite in an activity or towards a goal. Or maybe he isn’t the bombastic center of attention, yet he welds influence with ease. His calls to go do crazy thing x or random thing y actually garner people’s attention.

In missions, the Social Catalyst transcends barriers with ease. He consistently gets through immigration control without a second question. He gains access to a VIP party by talking about sports with the bouncer, a real example from a single male missionary. He gathers a group to climb a mountain on a whim, another real life example. When teams are in a season of transition or refocusing their purpose, the Social Catalyst can be a key figure in that change. He is great at the new and social, which makes him a powerful messenger for the Good News of the Kingdom.

Do not neglect your gifts of personality. Submit them to the Lord’s service and the growth of His Kingdom. Navigate the barriers to missionaries and declare the Good News in gladness!
