“I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” — 1 Corinthians 9:22-23

If we are to use the culture for the sake of the Gospel, we need to understand that culture. The Culture Learner does just that. He has a natural love for culture—its nuances, traditions, foods, and beyond. He travels for fun, watches foreign films, and attends international festivals in his city. But the Cultural Leaner’s passion for culture is not solely derived from chasing unique experiences. It is studied and practiced. He seeks deeper learning, pulling from a variety of sources (books, podcasts, videos, etc). And leveraging their knowledge, he already serves cross-culturally with international students, or refugees.

How do missionaries “become all things to all people” if you know nothing about them? The Cultural Learner provides cultural insights that their teams may operate in a richer, Gospel manner in their new home. Which hand do you eat with? What are appropriate ways of interacting with women? How do you navigate the culture’s hierarchies? He learns this and delves deeper, so the Gospel might go forth in power. Along with the Bridge Builder, he creates connections with locals, navigating cultural nuances and complexities.

Dive on in Cultural Learner. Delve into the depths of new lands and new peoples. Celebrate the diversity God has created and make beautiful the Gospel to all people.
